Playstation Network down since Wednesday, April 20, 2011
What perfect timing! The promising contender for GAME OF THE YEAR 2011, Portal 2, comes out on Tuesday and the very next day, attackers (who will remain anonymous) have shut down the entire Playstation Network. Don’t you just LOVE it?
Regardless of whether you support the group that has caused this issue or not, (I sure don’t) the fact remains that people who have paid for services available via PSN are very upset, and millions of gamers are left S.O.L. with their favorite games collecting dust in the corner while Sony tries to figure out how to prevent this from happening again.
Here’s Sonys official release from Playstation.com:
State of the System
So, here we are. 2010. The Playstation is coming up on its 4th year and where does it stand? Where will it go?
Will it be the harbinger of 3D entertainment? Will the motion controllers play a significant part in its future? What games will define the Playstation’s market share? These questions are important to all of us as gamers, and even more as owners of such an awesome piece of consumer hardware like the PS3. If the Playstation 2 is any indication (they still make and sell games for that system!), then the PS3 has quite a life ahead of itself.
We know what has happened in the past, let’s take a look at where we’re headed!
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo on PSN today!
EA’s highly anticipated first person shooter launches in just under one short month. Having previously held a private Beta, (which this writer FULLY enjoyed) they are now launching a demo TODAY. Straight from the official Twitter account comes this message:
So hurry home today and get in on what is gearing up to be one of the top games of the year! I’m in for a day-one copy, is anyone else?
Uncharted 2 DLC announced: Playstation Heroes Skin pack!
Sony has just announced that they will be updating the store on the 28th with two new Uncharted 2 downloads.
First, the Skin pack. For $4.99 you’ll be able to get your hands on a very unique skin pack which includes “Playstation heroes”. Straight from their news:
The PlayStation Heroes Skin Pack contains seven new skins featuring some key personalities from other major PlayStation first-party titles – Sev and a Helghast soldier from Killzone 2, Nathan Hale and a Chimera from Resistance 2, and Cole (both good and evil variants!) and Zeke from inFAMOUS.
The second download that will be available in the store is a DEMO of the single player game for Uncharted 2 for those of you (do you actually exist?) that haven’t yet bought the game of the year for 2009
Playstation 3 Hacked?
George Hotz, a member of the first team to unlock the iPhone, has claimed in his blog that he has hacked the PS3. He says:
I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. … 3 years, 2 months, 11 days…thats a pretty secure system
Check out his blog entry here: http://geohotps3.blogspot.com/2010/01/hello-hypervisor-im-geohot.html
What does this mean for us? Who knows yet.. but I’m sure Sony is scrambling to figure out what this guy has discovered so they can try and patch it! The PS3 still stands as the only Pirate-Proof system (despite what some of those spam bots and websites would like to claim – they’re full of viruses and identity theft schemes!!)
